I have a pair of jokers...shhhhh Lebron James is an athlete; he plays Basketball. Kong Linghui is an athlete; he plays ping pong. Heck, Walter Ray Williams is considered an athlete and all he does is hurl a sphere down an oiled alley hoping to knock down 10 bottle shaped figurines.

Now, let us visit the other side of the spectrum.

Phil Hellmuth is not an athlete. Mike Matusow is not an athlete. Doyle Brunson is not an athlete. Why? Because poker is not a sport. So I ask myself, “Why the heck does ESPN televise greasy haired nerds rotting over a card game? Why do we need instant replays for Texas Hold ‘Em?” Poker is a card game; poker is a hypnotist who kidnaps grown adults, doesn’t allow them to shower for days and forces them to scream at the dealer with remarks such as: “Ace! Ace!”, “River!”, “Mortal Kombbaaaaaaat!”

I have heroes. Here are some of my heroes and their contributions to the world.

Martin Luther King Jr.; he started the Civil Rights Movement in America. Mother Theresa; she dedicated her life to bettering other people’s lives. Superman; he flew faster than a speeding bullet and his hair was always perfect even at high speeds.

Let me remind you that…

Chris Ferguson is not a hero. Scotty Nguyen is not a hero. Johnny Chan is not a hero. Why? Because a definition of a hero is not a person who sits in nicotine filled rooms all day gambling, drinking beer while their loved ones wait for them at home. I’m not here to judge who you pick as your heroes. If you like your heroes bird chested, bad postured, obese and dressed in leather jackets that smell like 20 years worth of Marlboros then that’s your prerogative.
