Me and my band-mates, Jen and Tory, decided we were hungry for some Thai food at 2am. San Diego’s notorious late night eats are Mexican food and Mexican food. Did I mention Mexican food? Anyways, Jen is a mastermind at scouting out the late night spots and suggested we do what only 1 percent of the San Diego population is doing at this time of night - eat something besides Mexican food   <enter shock music>. So, with Jen leading the calvary, we ended up at The Asian Bistro in the Hillcrest district of San Diego. (414 University Ave, San Diego - (619) 296-4119).

When I first stepped in the joint my first thought was: “This place is a little too ritzy for being a late night spot”. Well, in comparison to all the late night taco shops I’ve been to, The Asian Bistro looked like Danny Tanner had did some justice on this place. Not that it was a bad thing - just a new thing for me. Also, since Hillcrest is the gay district of San Diego, we were surrounded by a good share of gay people and also a 5 person table full of transsexuals. Also nothing wrong with that - just another new experience for me.

Above is a picture of Jen and Tory enjoying their soup. Don’t worry Jen and don’t be alarmed people. I was using a wide angle lens on my camera so in reality Jen’s right arm isn’t the 22 inch Hulk Hogan python the picture depicts it to be.

Ohhhh….the Pad Thai noodles. At about $10 a plate this dish is well worth it. Using a mixture of celery, fresh chopped green pepper, fresh chopped red pepper, cubed chicken, and fatty noodles these Pad Thai noodles were very scrumptious. I love how they DO NOT overserve at this restaurant. It seems like they are a quality over quantity type joint which anybody can easily appreciate. If you don’t appreciate that then you can kiss my molasses.

Yes, being grown up is fun. No, I am not a gay man (not that their’s anything wrong with that), but when in Rome…order a martini. However, no, I’m not saying all gay men drink martinis. Yes, some gay men drink beer. Yes, some straight guys drink martinis with cherries in them. No, I am not trying to offend anybody so, yes, I am going to get off this topic. Yes, not eating at a taco shop with jail bars to protect the cooks and cashier is fun. No, being trapped in a Bengal tiger’s cage while having 5 pounds of sirloin steak tied to your ankles is not fun. Where did that last comment come from? I don’t know. But, yes, that comment was fun.

Yes, I’m pretty sure you are very annoyed with me starting the last sentences with either a “yes” or a “no”. So with that being said; YES…you should go to The Asian Bistro when you find yourself needing a different late night food fix. They are open until 4am

Love how you made showing respect into something fun. You never stopped showing how secure you are in your sexuality, but still threw in nods to guys who might not be, and set a better example. Enjoying this blog all the more. Thanks!

Thanks! People are so scared to say the word “gay” or talk about gay people because they think it’ll be taken offense or even make people assume they are gay. If I’m not using the word in a disrespectful manner then don’t take it offensive. What’s the problem with a straight man saying the word “gay” or hanging out with our gay compadres????

In relation to the whole gay talk, on the same visit to the Asian Bistro, Tory had said the word “gay” in our table conversation. He didn’t say it in a disrespectful manner nor did he mean anything derogatory by it. He was just inquiring if an acquaintance of ours was possibly gay. There was a man sitting directly to the left of us who was eves dropping on our conversation and heard Tory use the word “gay”. As soon as he heard Tory say the word “gay” he responded with a racial comment indirectly towards Tory about “big lips”. Of course he didn’t say it straight to Tory’s face because he would have got stomped into the concrete. I figure if you’re going to disrespect somebody at least have some respect for yourself and tell it to the person’s face…especially if they’re sitting a couple feet away from you. Tory heard him say that, but chose to be the bigger person. Don’t get me wrong…Tory looked his way…and even gave him a courteous smile to acknowledge that he heard what the man said. Do you know what the strong opinionated eves dropper did??? Not only did he not repeat himself; he didn’t even have the balls to look Tory in the face. Small actions from such a big talker.

Hey gays and straights…I don’t care what your sexual preference is. I don’t care what color you are. What religion you are. How much money you have. How poor you are. How much of a fighter you are. How much of a great musician you are. Who your father is. What kind of car you drive. How famous you are. There is no excuse for being an asshole. However, if you are an asshole, I can respect you if you have enough balls to say your comments and face the consequences. I have no respect for pussy assholes who have to say their demeaning comments in a cowardly whisper tone.

I have about 100 foodie blogs bookmarked, and always move them up and down on the list based on how much I like them. Yours keeps moving higher up the list….

I hope you never censor yourselves, never stop talking to us like real people, and never stop setting a better example of how a man should be. LOL All this on a foodie blog. Most impressive.

 Straight to the top!!! haha. Why thank you for your kind words and blessings.

If you like the website you might love the podcast that we’re launching in a couple weeks. Just some roundtable discussions on some regular ‘ol topics. Nothing too special. I don’t guarantee it’s going to be the best podcast, however, I do guarantee a laugh or two….or three…or four…five. Well, you get it. Or six
