On a weekend visit to the Bay Area my older brother took me to J.J.’s Fish and Chicken. The first bite into their stellar fried chicken made me call my Mayor…but then he didn’t pick up because he was too busy plotting new ways to spend our tax dollars for his personal gains. Don’t be scared; J.J.’s isn’t exactly located in Brady Bunch Ville, but don’t let the “ghettoness” stray you away from the beautiful food here. As a matter of fact, the neighborhood might be considered “ghetto” to some of you closed minded folks, but J.J.’s is a prime example how great people come from all walks of life. The customers are friendly and the staff are socially talented. We ordered a big tray of chicken and one of the staff member’s even carried our order out for us and put it in the trunk. Take that Mr. and Mrs. stereotype the ghetto. However, what I do find odd, is J.J.’s Chicken and Fish shares the same space as a gas station and liquor store. That’s not a bad thing; In fact, it’s a positive thing because where else can you buy a pack of beer and cigarettes while waiting for your delicious chicken? An additional thumbs up is that they have a wall of fame that includes Ricky Henderson and local rapstars Mac Mall and B-Legit (two rappers I personally listened to growing up). J.J.’s sprinkles their fried chicken with a lemony spice I can’t get enough of. I call it the THC of the chicken. For you chicken skins lovers, like myself, I guarantee you will fall in love with the crispy, well spiced chicken skin that strips right off the meat. For you dessert lovers, they have a speciality cake called “Red Velvet”. Though it’s a cool ass stripper name, it’s also fitting for this cake because it goes down smooth like silk with a talk glass of milk (yeah, that rhyme on purpose). So next time you find yourself in The Bay, stop by J.J.’s Fish and Chicken and fill your mouth with the greatness that they offer.

Damn. JJ’s is all the way in Cali? We got some of them joints here in Detroit. And yes, the chicken is just as you described it. They fry it just right. Crispy! And if you aint scared, try the fried oysters too. And for all those who say otherwise, yes, us black folks can be adventurous eaters. Lol
Oh. 1 more thing, is the Bay Area near Compton? If so, next time you go to JJ’s, tell them to take a picture of Kendrick Lamar when he come in there.
I didn’t know they had a JJ’s out in Detroit. I’m sure JJ’s originated outside of California cause we’re not known for incredible fried chicken. Nah, the Bay Area isn’t near Compton. It’s about 8 hours away. But if I ever run into Mr. Lamar I’ll make sure to grab a pic for you. I just got introduced to his music. That High Power joint is a dope cut. He’s definitely on the rise to greatness if he keeps it up.
